At the International School St. Lucia, we embrace the wealth of knowledge that both local and international teaching talent brings. Our diverse faculty fosters a lively learning atmosphere, exposing students to various perspectives, cultures, and experiences. While our curriculum follows Canadian educational standards, attracting numerous skilled Canadian educators, we are equally dedicated to hiring outstanding teachers from around the globe. Each ISSL teacher is required to have a university degree and formal teaching qualifications, with prior classroom experience highly valued, enhancing our dynamic, student-centered approach. Together, our teachers create a global classroom, equipping students for both academic achievement and global citizenship.
Principal
With more than 30 years in education as a classroom teacher, instructional facilitator, Vice Principal, and Principal, I’ve had the honor of supporting students in various capacities, which has strengthened my belief in the transformative power of learning. At ISSL, I take pride in leading a remarkable team of educators from both Saint Lucia and Canada, whose varied backgrounds enhance our classrooms and embody the global essence of our school. Together, we cultivate an inclusive atmosphere where every student is recognized, challenged, and supported. Our collective mission is to equip learners for not only academic achievement but also for a life as thoughtful and engaged global citizens.
Sharon Knights, Principal
Business Manager
Mrs. Danielle de Freitas brings over 25 years of experience from her family business, where she expertly managed administrative operations, accounting, and brokerage services. Her background underscores a robust foundation in organization, leadership, and meticulous attention to detail. In addition to her business acumen, Danielle possesses a profound dedication to youth engagement. She has successfully led teen clubs and mentorship programs aimed at empowering young girls with strong values, confidence, and a sense of purpose. Her commitment to character development and community involvement makes her a significant contributor to the ISSL team. Danielle’s unique blend of professional expertise and sincere devotion to youth development aligns seamlessly with our mission to support students in both their academic and personal growth.
Administrative Assistant
Lindy Joseph joined the ISSL team in May 2025, bringing strength, resilience, and wholehearted dedication to her role. Known for her unwavering commitment to excellence, Lindy approaches every task with care and determination, ensuring her work reflects the highest standards.
Her love for children shines through in everything she does—bringing joy to their lives is one of her greatest passions. Outside of work, Lindy finds inspiration in reading, music, singing, nature, and meaningful conversations with new people. Her warmth and positivity make her a valued member of the ISSL community.

Elementary Program
Alana LaPointe
Meet Miss Alana Lapointe, our vibrant and bilingual Health and Physical Education teacher at ISSL! A Canadian-certified teacher from New Brunswick, she arrived in Saint Lucia in the spring of 2024 for her teacher training and quickly fell in love with the island's culture and spirit. With a passion for movement, wellness, and student growth, Miss Lapointe is a perfect addition to our team for the 2026–2027 school year. Whether she's leading games on the field or helping students uncover their strengths, her energy and enthusiasm shine through in every class!
Ms. Sarah Hyppolite
Ms. Sarah Hyppolite is a passionate bilingual educator from Saint Lucia with over 20 years of teaching experience. She has excelled as a secondary school teacher and later taught in French Immersion programs in Canada, bringing a unique perspective to both elementary and secondary education. Fluent in English and French, Sarah creates inclusive learning environments and is committed to student success. Her international experience and dedication to education make her a valuable asset to the ISSL school community. Ms. Hyppolite will be teaching our grade 3-4 class for the 2026 -2027 school year.
Mrs. Samantha Sweeney (née Laviolette)
Mrs. Sweeney is a qualified Canadian educator whose enthusiasm for teaching and affection for Saint Lucia have inspired her to make the island her permanent residence. With a solid background in curriculum delivery and student engagement, she infuses both expertise and passion into every classroom she enters. In the 2026–2027 school year, Mrs. Sweeney will be teaching Grade 7 Geography and Grade 9 and 10 Science. Additionally, she will support English Language Learners and contribute to our Resource room. Her dynamic teaching approach, dedication to student development, and collaborative nature make her a cherished long-term member of the ISSL team.
Ms. Victoria Fernandes
Welcome Ms. Fernandes to ISSL! We are excited to have her join our team this school year as she teaches our K-2 students. With her extensive experience from the Durham District School Board in Ontario, Canada, we are confident that she will bring valuable insights and a nurturing approach to our young learners. Please join us in welcoming her to our school community!
Ms. Ayesha Rahaman
Ms. Ayesha Rahaman joined our faculty last semester and will continue with our team for the 2026-2027 academic year. She is known for her enthusiasm and joy in teaching, fostering critical thinking among students as they engage with the material. In the upcoming school year, Ms. Rahaman will teach our grade 5-6 students and will also lead Grade 12 Entrepreneurship during the second semester.

Secondary Program
Mrs. Marifel Michel
With 20 years in education, Mrs. Marifel Michel has worked with students and teachers in various K-12. She has been an Education Specialist in LAUSD's special education program, taught Grades 4-6, and instructed Language, Geography, History, and Digital Productions for Grades 7-12 at ISSL. A UCLA Sociology graduate with a teaching credential from CSU Northridge, she currently teaches at International School Saint Lucia, focusing on creating engaging learning experiences. In the 2026-2027 school year, she will teach Grade 7 and 8 Language and Grade 12 Creative Arts while supporting students in the Resource room.
Mr. Benjamin Kuska
Mr. Benjamin Kuska has over ten years of teaching experience at both elementary and secondary levels, including roles as Education Manager and Vice Principal at a private school. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Science and a BEd in Education and is pursuing MSc in Management and Educational Leadership. Passionate about Mathematics and Science, he believes all students can learn and enjoy these subjects. For the 2026-2027 school year, he will teach Grades 7 - 11 Mathematics, Grade 9 Business and Grade 11 Chemistry.
Ms Julitta Alexandre
Ms. Alexandre is an incredibly passionate educator who brings a vibrant wealth of experience in language and culture to her teaching! With a longstanding commitment to St. Mary’s College, she has made a remarkable impact on students. Her impressive academic journey includes a Diploma in French from l’Université de Clermont-Ferrand in France, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education from the University of Montreal. For the 2026–2027 year, she continues to ignite excitement in students from Grades 5–11 with her engaging French lessons, along with teaching Grade 8 and Grade 9 Geography. Her lively French Club is a cherished highlight of campus life, offering students an exciting opportunity to explore francophone culture beyond the classroom. We are thrilled to have Ms. Alexandre's enthusiasm, expertise, and joyful spirit enriching our school community!
Ms. Deborah Castello
Ms. Deborah Castello is a passionate educator with extensive experience, including roles in the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and as a course director at York University. She is also a professional singer and songwriter who integrates the arts into her teaching. Inspired by her Christian faith, she is dedicated to fostering a compassionate and equitable learning environment for all students. For the 2026-2027 school year, she will teach Grade 12 English, Grades 7-10 Arts, Grade 3-4 Health and Physical Education, and 12 Nutrition.
Ms. Melanie Wilson
Ms. Wilson joined ISSL in fall 2023, bringing over ten years of teaching experience and a strong background in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science from the University of the West Indies. Her commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments helps students excel academically and personally. Currently completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching, she looks forward to teaching senior-level Mathematics and Physics in the 2026-2027 school year, supporting students' academic and career success. Her dedication and genuine care for student well-being make her a valued faculty member.
Ms. Tammy King
Tammy King is a seasoned educator with expertise in teaching and library and information science. She earned a BA in Education Studies and Digital Technology, concentrating on early childhood education, a Master’s degree in Education, and a diploma in Library and Information Science. With a passion for promoting literacy, digital learning, and student engagement, Tammy is committed to developing inclusive and innovative learning experiences that enhance both academic achievement and personal growth. For the 2026-2027 school year, she will be instructing Grade 9 Learning Strategies, Grade 9 and 10 English, Grade 11 Writing, Grade 11-12, Grade 12 Skills for Success, and Grade 12 World Issues.
Ms. Tamika Monplaisir
We are excited to welcome Ms. Tamika Monplaisir to our team this year! With her experience from Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, we look forward to the expertise she will contribute to our Math and Science programs. In the 2026-2027 school year, Ms. Monplaisir will be teaching Grade 7 Science, Grade 8 and 11 Mathematics, Grade 11 and 12 Biology, along with Grade 11/12 Environmental Science and Grade 12 Chemistry. This promises to be a year full of learning and exploration!
Ms. Kianne John
We are excited to announce that Ms. Kianne John will be continuing with us for the 2026-2027 school year. Since joining our team last semester, she has brought warmth and a commitment to deep learning that resonates with her students. In the upcoming year, Ms. John will be teaching Grade 8 Science, Grade 8 Geography, Grade 10 Civics and Careers, Grade 11 English and Modern History, Grade 11, and Grade 12 Digital Production. We look forward to another great year of learning and growth with her!
Ms. Delia Dolor
We are excited to share that Ms. Delia Dolor will continue to be our Wellness Coach for the 2026-2027 school year! With her vast knowledge and experience, she’s a valuable resource for students, staff, and parents alike. Delia skillfully combines her excellent communication abilities with her counseling expertise to create a supportive atmosphere for our students. From navigating friendship dynamics to stress management and essential life skills, her dedication to student well-being is evident in all that she does!
