Students of International School Saint Lucia accepted donations
for the Hurricane Relief of the Red Cross.
They brought
in food, clothing, games and school supplies for families. Considering what a family would need - from toothbrushes
to pasta - they organized family packs.
Bags were provided by cash donations and Super J and Chreiki's. Students organized the parcels. They were able
to make 49 Family Support Packages. Chris Huxley came to help with his pickup truck. Needless to say, the Red
Cross were happy with our donations. The bags were reportedly taken to the Bexon area for distribution.
International School Saint Lucia's First College Fair!
Representatives of ISSL , board members, principal, receptionist,
bursar and students, were able to share with visitors the value of attending ISSL for grades 11, 12 and UNB for university,
year one. Many students did not know much about the North American system of education, and were surprised to hear that
there was another route to university than through CXC's. They learned that by successfully completing two years, 11
and 12 at ISSL, they could apply for university entrance. This event was possible through the alliance of ISSL with
the University of New Brunswick, Canada.
The University
of New Brunswick is offering on-line courses, with support from ISSL beginning January 2011! The first pilot course
is called Arts 1000 and is worth 6 of the 30 credits needed for a first year B.A. program.
The First Year@Home program will give students from A levels or grade 12 the opportunity to stay
in Saint Lucia to accomplish the first year toward a B.A. degree at much less cost - no foreign fees, transportation, residence
or university support costs. For under $24 000 EC, the first year can be done- with the hope that the student can then
afford the following two years to complete the degree in New Brunswick. Since these courses are general in nature, many
other colleges and universities will recognize them and give credit for them.
UNB provided the money for the advertising of the program, and included our school in the banners,
pamphlets, and flyers. ISSL has greatly benefited from this alliance, both academically and financially.

Hallowe'en Party 2010
On the eve of Hurricane Tomas - a REALLY scary event - the parents, staff and students had a great
time celebrating Hallowe'en. The Student Council decorated the school in black and orange. The students danced
in the gym to music supplied by DJ Sheldon Fulgence, our school technician. Parents brought contests and games into
play with a mummy wrapping contest, "snorkeling" for apples, and board games. Everyone joined in the fun by
dressing creatively - complete with makeup, costumes and props. The Parents brought delicious treats - severed fingers
with almond slices as fingernails, and other decorated sweets and pastries. By the end of the evening, the Student
Council and Parent Council made some money toward their various projects. The students helped clean up after the party
- and made their way home before the wrath of Hurricane Tomas struck the island. A memorable time indeed!
We are indeed fortunate to be able to open for full days beginning on Monday, November 15, 2010. Special thanks goes to Mr.
Kyle for helping us with the challenges of water transportation and for your patience in this difficult time. It is important
to our senior students especially, that we resume full day classes, since this school works on a semester basis, and the
finals of some courses are scheduled for the end of January.
We are opening the school from 7:45 - 12:00 p.m. Students will be receiving additional homework. Senior students can come
back in the afternoon for additional assistance. The school will be open until 3:00 p.m. each day. We regret the need to shorten
the day, but based on water restrictions, we must maintain a hygienic environment for our students.
